Lehigh University will take part in the national celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month.  The Office of Multicultural Affairs will offer a series of events open to the Lehigh University community that will highlight and honor the many contributions Hispanic Americans have made to our society. This year's theme is Sabor, Spirt & Soul, which will encompass the many aspects that comes with celebrating cultural heritage through food, learning, and reflection.

The festivities begin with Cultural Cuisine - Empanadas of Latin America. Empanadas are one of the few foods that unite all of Latin America. Though they come in myriad regional variations – with different doughs, fillings, and cooking methods – at their core they do have a (mostly) common origin story. Join us on September 26, 2019, from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. in the UMOJA House as we invite a guest chef that will demonstrate how to make home-style empanadas, learn how to make your own delicious empanadas while discussing its origins!

Spaces are limited to 25 people. Please see Renee at UC208 to sign up!

The LatinX Mosaic is a showcase of the various Latinx cultures that students at Lehigh identify with. The event is a grassroots effort by members of the Latinx Student Alliance and the Office of Multicultural Affairs, focused on teaching members of the broader Lehigh community about various facets of their culture such as language, traditional food, clothing, and heritage. This event will help students connect with their own cultures, and the cultures of their peers and friends, allowing them to be proud of their heritage. It is meant to be a place where people of all backgrounds and our own come together to learn more about the Latinx experience, and culture. It is an event where people will eat the traditional foods, play the honest and traditional games, and most importantly become united by their culture and learn more about the community that LSA has helped foster at Lehigh.

On Wednesday, October 9th, Latina filmmaker, and cultural storyteller will be on campus for a day of learning & reflection. Denise Soler Cox is an accomplished, mission-based business entrepreneur and motivational speaker turned film director. Fueled by her own identity crisis as a first-generation American Latina born to Puerto Rican parents in New York, Project ñ is a multi-platform media project that explores the universal identity question “Who am I, and where do I fit in?” for one of the fastest-growing populations in the US today: American/US-born Latinos with parents from a Spanish-speaking country. It is free and open to the public. Denis Soler Cox will give the celebration’s keynote address at a Community Cultural Lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. (registration is required) in Lamberton Hall.

Followed by the Documentary Screening Being Eñye and Q&A with Denise Soler Cox from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. in Whiticker Lab 303.
